The 2019 Kia Stinger, a large car, earns the highest designation of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Stinger earns the award when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights.

The Stinger, which is based on the same platform as the Genesis G70, earns good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

To qualify for a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in these six evaluations, as well as an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good headlight rating.

The Stinger's available front crash prevention system earns a superior rating in IIHS tests. The vehicle avoided collisions in 12 mph and 25 mph track tests and has a forward collision warning component that meets the criteria set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Stingers qualify for the award when equipped with front crash prevention and one of two available good-rated headlight systems. The good rating applies to static LED projector headlights that are available both with and without high-beam assist, a system that automatically switches between high beams and low beams, depending on the presence of other vehicles. The Stinger's available curve-adaptive LED projectors rate acceptable, while its base headlights — halogen projectors — rate poor.

Kia has earned a total of 10 Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ awards for 2019 models.
