I am planning on installing some aftermarket fog lights on the front of my 2018 Stinger GT. I want them to be manually activated and intend to mount an on/off switch on the dash. Ideally, I would like to use one of the vacant spots on the panel to the left of the steering wheel that currently has the dimmer for the dash lights and the fuel filler door. There are two additional cover plates available.

Has anyone ever mounted a DIY switch in that spot? I noticed the OEM switches are part of an entire unit that is sealed. If so, did you crack open the case or is there a version available for cars that have more features than mine? Can you suggest a switch that is a close match to Kia's? Any help is appreciated.

What foglights did you have in mind? A few years back there were some that installed these.

I have already purchased the fog lights. While I have seen the one's you mentioned (and like them), I needed something much brighter since the roads where I live are very dark at night. My question was specifically regarding the placement of an On/Off switch on the dash in the existing panel which has the fuel filler door button.

Drilling into the back of the factory switch is a pain, and there isn’t much room to work back there. Mounting the switch over the fuse panel cover is much easier, and you can tap into the fuse box for power at the same time.

Just an update on this project: I decided to install the lights behind the upper grille after doing some testing to see how much light got through. As it turns out, very little light is lost in this configuration and I like the way it looked much better. I ran two wires from under the dash to a relay I mounted behind the front bumper. One is constant fused 12V+ and the other is the trigger from relay coil (which eliminated running high current through the dash switch).

With that said, I have not decided on which switch to make permanent. Currently I am using an illuminated SPST switch until I make my final decision. I still want to try an make it look OEM (although I agree with "StingerTom" on it being a pain). I bought another switch panel off eBay and am going to fool around with it and see if I can make it work. Regardless, at least the lights are working.
