Check Engine Light, Gear Skip and idle issue

Hi Guys,
Today while I was driving home. As I accelerated to pass a car, my stinger felt like it was skipping gears. It would accelerate and then lose acceleration for a second and pick it up again (as if I was letting off the gas over and over). Then the check engine light went on and as I was coming to a stop, the whole car was rattling and felt like it was going to stall if I let off the gas.

I was about a block away from home. So when I got got there. I put the car in park and the idling continued to feel like it was gonna stall. I shut the engine off, checked to make sure no fluids were leaking, popped the hood and looked around for anything lose and everything looked fine. I restarted the car and everything was back to normal.

Has anyone had anything similar Happen?

I already had an appointment scheduled for Monday for an oil change (it's at 1500 miles). I will have them check on this issue, but I just wondered if anyone had any issues like this.

My car did that the other day pulling onto the freeway, it only did it a couple of times. Sence that day it hasn't hesitated or anything on acceleration. I was told that with a chip hooked up that it will sometimes mess with the cars ECU, now if that's true or not I don't know. If you don't have a chip it sounds like a ECU or a sensor problem, be that your check engine light came on the dealership can find out what that code is. Tell us what happens...(y)

Yeah, no chip hooked up. So I'm hoping the dealership will be able to give me a reason.

I'll make sure to update...

Alright, I just got the call back from the dealership. The issue is the ignition coils. They will be replacing all 6 ignition coils. Looking up bad ignition coils comes up with the symptoms I was experiencing (Acceleration wasn't normal, misfire causing loss of power and jerking sensation, and rough idling which was causing the rough vibrations).

That's good to know, there has been to couple people on Instagram that had the same problem. I glad everything was fixed, at least dealership replaced all of them....(y)

Exact same thing happened to me! About a month ago a CEL came on indicating spark plug 5 was misfiring. Dealership fixed no problem. Two weeks ago I had the exact same symptoms you had but this time no CEL. Dealership called Kia tech line and they said to replace all 6 coil packs and spark plugs. The bill came out to right under 1k but it was covered under warranty!

Oh man, thank the car gods for warranty. Still a pain you had to deal with the issue twice. I hope it's the right fix and it doesn't happen again.

I've been reading a lot on the coil issue and it seems to be one of the most common issues with the Stinger. 🤷‍♂️
