All the manuals I see online say 5w30, but my engine cap specifies 0w30.

Is this the same everywhere?

I already know that 0w30 is better than 5w30 in every measurable way, and that 0w30 is ONLY available in synthetic.

Just curious about the oil filler cap. I am in Canada if it matters.

I negotiated 4 free oil changes into my purchase and everytime I go to the dealer for one of these free oil changes, I always need to specify the 0w30 (which they have in bottles) rather than their bulk stuff. The service advisor usually questions me. (I believe they have 5w20 as bulk)

Interesting. Mine says 5W-30. Could be climate specific

I see you live in Canada, they mite have a different spec oil for the car, but 5W-30 is fine.

Mine says 5W-30 as well

It's because you're in the Arctic circle, aka Canada.

At operating temps, there is no appreciable benefits between the two viscosity levels. 0W will have easier flow at sub zero temps, but even that is brand and spec dependent. Some 5W brands are thinner than 0W at near freezing temps.

It is climate specific. You being further north, experience harsher winter periods, therefore requiring a lower Winter viscosity.

As a total shock to me, Kia has issued a recall to change my oil cap....

They didn't have it in stock today, but the tech tells me the new cap says 5w30...

Weirdest recall I have ever heard of.

0w30 is objectively better... Why would they do this?

Cost?

I couldn't find anything online regarding recall 180088
