Mechanically speaking how does the adaptive suspension work and how do using lowering springs impact the function of it.

Welcome, Installing lowering springs does not impact the function of the adaptive suspension. The way it work is when you put your car in sport mode it boost's the preload & rebound, so it makes the suspension a little harder. When you install lowering springs it moves the center of gravity closer to the ground in which makes for a better handling car.

I have adaptive suspension.

Putting a lowering spring on a car is going to compress the shock absorber more, and that does change the behavior of it. It is the reason why Bilstein makes different shocks B6 versus B8. Same exact shock absorber internally but has a shorter body for a lowering spring.

Your adaptive suspension will still work, but compressing a shock absorber more can shorten the life of it especially if it's more than an inch drop.

Your car your money your choice.
