Correct. It is basically a device to fool the car into thinking the stock adjustable dampers are still present, so it doesn't throw a fault code once they're gone. It isn't needed on cars that didn't come from the factory with adjustable suspension, hence it is optional.

This may be an Australian-spec thing then. It works on my GT (which is the Aussie equivalent of the GT2).

The problem with this is that if they do, then their fuel usage rating has to be done with it disabled. It won't happen. Some people have stuck a piece of rubber or plastic underneath the button, some people wedge it down with a card slipped into the side.

Apparently putting the car in sports mode and disabling ESC puts the gearbox in manual mode.

We already get those on the GT in Australia (if we put the car in sports mode, the bolsters tighten up). I am sure other markets get it on some models too.
