Are you sure its not the sticky clear plastic protective film from the factory? Mine was still on both sides and I had to peel it off.

Both. The hatch latches shut but the secondary mechanism wont latch so it cant shut completely. Also, it wont release to allow it to open either. KIA said they had to order a replacement secondary latch. And, they said this is the first issue they've seen with the hatchback.
