Pretty sure that just applies if you drop out of the lease. Don't pay, turn the car back in, etc. The page that includes your lease terms and MF mentions a buyout fee, but the dealer didn't give me a copy of that page (??) when I left.

Should be basically the same. If you pay it up front during the leasing process, you'll save a couple bucks (Like, literally, $10 is all) because the interest rate on the lease is, presumably, much higher than your bank's rate, and you'll have a lower leased amount that's building that high...
