Ever since the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore V8 bruisers went out of production the Australian police force have been searching for replacement vehicles to combat high-speed pursuits on their long, straight highways. Those replacements might well be coming from South Korea.

The Queensland Police Service has unveiled the first official Kia Stinger patrol car, wanting to ?beat every other state to it.? The Kia Stinger was confirmed as being under evaluation for police duties back in June. Both the base turbocharged four-cylinder and GT with its 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 model were tested, passing the rigorous braking and cooling tests that reportedly sent the Ford Mustang GT packing last year.

"The brake package meets their requirements, the wiring meets their requirements, and it can be upgraded without drama" Kia communications manager Kevin Hepworth told CarAdvice earlier in the year.

He added that performance figures are what they want too. At that point they just had to assess whether or not the car steered well enough. Evidently it must have passed muster there too.

With the rolling out of Queensland?s Stinger police cruiser, it looks like Kia has engineered a capable car. Whether or not it can stand up to the punishing tests of the Australian police force remains to be seen.
