Everyone, here's the first look at the Kia Stinger Stillen Intake System.

The tube sections are unfinished instead of black or polished, just the tube is raw silver aluminum instead of polished or black on the prototype

I like the subtle look, still prefer the K&N design though

Stillen said it's about 15 days out. As soon as I get anything I'll post it.

Again, looks like shielding and not a box. They have numbers for the intake and they have numbers for the exhaust. I hope they have numbers for the combination, as well.

I'm just hoping they price it reasonably and don't try to shaft us [rolleyes]

Excuse me for my ignorance, but what?s the difference between a full shield and a box?

Normally, a box would use only the "cooler" air coming from outside the engine bay. In the Stinger's case, there are "slots" on each side of the front grill that allow air to enter the stock air intake boxes. And those boxes are sealed to keep out the "hotter" air in the engine bay.

A shield traditionally only puts some kind of barrier between the filter element and hotter components near the filter (hoses, manifolds, etc.) while letting whatever outside air inlet exists blow at or towards the filter. They are often otherwise wide open in the engine bay.

In Stillen's case, it LOOKS LIKE they have created a shield to keep most of the engine bay air out. But it's clearly not sealed. We can't see it from many angles (underneath, from the opposite side, etc.), so we don't know how much "shielding" there is.

Box = outside air. Shield = some engine bay air.

Hope this helps!

In other words, it's the same type deal as K&N. Not a completely enclosed box, just a shield. Unfortunately most of these shield-type intakes are made out of metal, which can get heat soaked rather easily and quickly on a hot day. A composite shield--carbon fiber, ABS, any type of plastic--are always better. Still though, if K&N is popular at a ~$400 price range, then I'm sure Stillen's will see good sales numbers, especially being the second to market if they're going up for sale now.

The real question is who's going to be first to dyno it to corroborate advertised gains for the rest of us? [biggrin]

So I confirmed with Stillen that it?s ALMOST a full box. The only reason it?s not a box, per Stillen, is because of the seems of the box that are on the sides of the hood. There is a slight seem that is open (you can see it in the picture above). Also, the box is made from a plastic, not metal.

To me, I?ll still be likely buying it.

Correct. I gave them a call yesterday and they stated that they are 3 to 4 weeks away from releasing to the market, they are currently in production.

Did they discuss pricing?
