Depends on ambient temperature. Warming the car up to operating temperature is a lot more than the engine coolant, it's also the transmission, engine oil, differential, transfer case, wheel bearings and stub shaft CV joints. Driving gently warms the car up more quickly and completely and doesn't waste fuel idling.

Where I am, it's all 30mph or 40mph for the first 6 miles until I cross the bridge and get off the Island to a big road, so I don't have much choice other than a good warm up / cool down routine each time.
