plugs

Hi Chi Guy,

I was running the lap 3 uncle chip for weeks but only drove every sunday. My std plugs gave up on me last Sunday mis firing . I pulled the intake, coils out plus disconnected all the wiring and applicable hoses and changed the spark plugs to HKS and while I was at it swapped out the lap 3 uncle chip for the GTS racechip black box. Firstly after spending 5 hours not only changing the plugs, checking gaps and changing hose clamps , I then took it for a drive with the lap 3 and the plug change made a hell of a difference. Anyway I had bought the racechip so at that point swapped out the lap 3 as well . After driving for ten minutes the engine warning light came on, so I followed the racechip instructions for trouble shooting and within an hour had the engine warning light off. I then went for a 4 hour drive and the GTS racechip is certainly noticeable, but I want more lol. Oh the original plugs I pulled out were orange so I tossed them in the bin.

Thanks Philsting! So, in your opinion, would you say that the GTS Black is stronger than the LAP3?

Most definately you notice the difference between lap 3 and GTS, plus racechip is working on more powerful model so presume as long as you buy the blue tooth option would be as simple as paying for the upgrade then uploading it via phone. Lap 3 doesnt have these options so is limited to whats already been programed unless you posted it back and forth.

Philsting, what was it that caused the check engine light after running with the GTS?

The camshaft plug for the GtS Black was a bitch to fit and looked like i hadnt pushed it all the way on even though i thought i had. Car has to be locked and switched off so to reverse the GTS fitment then re connect then disconnect and re fit the GTS took over an hour. Well worth it though and the engine light hasnt been on since.

So, the moral of the story is take your time during install.

An update for everybody:

A couple weeks ago on the older RaceChip firmware, I blew spark plugs 1 and 5 running Race mode on 91 fuel. On 100 octane, this setting was fine. This, and RwYeAsNt's spark plug failure was I believe what pushed RaceChip to turn down their settings. As of a couple days ago, my spark plugs were changed, and I gapped them to 0.025". I've since put around 150 miles on it so far in Race mode, and it's been perfectly fine! I'm not going to outright say gapping is the end all be all solution, but so far it works great. I will let you all know if something else happens again.

On another note, looks like the app is updated such that every time you connect it auto-resets to eco mode. It's probably a good idea.

Thanks for the update eliwu26. Glad to hear gapping will fix all the problems.

Keep us posted! If regapped plugs are all that are needed to run Race mode on 91 octane, that's a good thing!

So I took the car out today for a long spin with the new Racechip Black installed. I haven?t regapped the plugs yet but I also didn?t experience any issues. I run 93 octane here in Canada and so far so good but I still might either replace the plugs or regap just to be on the safe side... In race mode selected on the chip and sport on the car it is a beast. Turbo lag is gone and it responds very quickly with a noticeable increase in power. I put approximately 500kms on today so stay tuned for long term results
