For giggles I thought I would do a quick comparison between my rental Charger R/T and my GT2. I was prepared to hate the charger, since I've never been impressed by them, but I was wrong, it's not THAT bad.

For a big boy, the Charger can actually dance a little. I expected it to be a boat, but it doesn't embarrass itself going around corners at all. It's the overall size that ruins it; the Stinger shrinks around you but the charger is just so huge you'll never feel confident. That, plus the seats are as flat as pizza boxes, and you'll slide around like one too when you corner. Getting back in the Stinger, it felt like a cozy coupe in comparison, with seats that hug you.

As good as the Stinger sounds it will never compete with the Hemi; that V8 just sounds nasty at startup and during acceleration. If the rumored V8 Stinger ever becomes a reality, hopefully they'll prioritize the exhaust note and give us something mean sounding. That said, the hemi seems to be mostly bark; after ~4k rpm it's wheezing, so I have no doubt the Stinger would pull away from it. It's surprisingly efficient though, I averaged 22 mpg in mixed driving, whereas I've yet to crack 20 in the Stinger.

All in all, it wasn't that bad. Reviewers say it's not a direct Stinger competitor but I'm sure someone will cross shop at some point. The things that could sway them to the Charger are greater interior room, better incentives and, in R/T form, that sweet sounding hemi. But if they want a faster, more fun to drive car, they'll go with the Stinger. [twothumb]

Good comparison, I always of the charger as being such a "large" car........

This is very much appreciated. I myself have narrowed my car choices to the Stinger and the Charger, although I was looking at the Charger GT variety (V6) in AWD as I live in a snowy area at times. But this is a nice review. Thanks for the info.

I see you're in my favorite state. I'm probably going to be transferring up there some time next year. I've never experienced REAL snow (this stuff we get here would make your snow laugh), so if I end up having to drive in it, I'll probably regret not getting AWD when I had the chance..lol.

You just might. I drive around a 12 Civic Si and it has a very hard time if there is a little snow/mud, which is what we get most of the time in the winter months. However, once or twice a year we get a good snow and even good AWD and 4WD vehicles all get stuck in that stuff. So I'm just hoping to get around well in the regular stuff with an AWD vehicle.

If they would update the chassis on the Charger instead of using the old one from MB it would be a much better handling car.

Chrysler's LX platforms are heavy and large. My Magnum RT tips the scales at 4300 lbs. Maggie is a lead sled, a fast lead sled at that. LOL

There have been rumors the next gen Charger/300 is to move over to the Alfa Romeo platform. Has that been confirmed?

I've heard rumors of one more LX refresh and then switching to the Maserati Ghibli platform in 2021.

Also heard the 5.7L Hemi is coming to EOL and maybe replaced with a twin turbo v6.
